Individualized risk-benefit decisions

Medication decisions should consider the specific medication and dose, the parent’s functioning and mental health, the infant’s age and health, milk supply, other treatments, and available evidence. Risks of untreated symptoms may also matter.

Before making changes

Where possible, review treatment before pregnancy. Do not abruptly stop or change a prescribed medication without medical advice. Coordinate with maternity, primary-care, pharmacy, and infant-care providers when appropriate.

Non-medication supports

Practical routines, sleep support, counselling, workload adjustments, reminders, and help with daily tasks may reduce impairment. These supports can complement medical treatment.
